By Brad Crawford, 247Sports: College football’s most-talented running back rooms certainly impact the fall playoff race, but which teams have the best tandems is a different ranking entirely. Backfield depth matters, but the two players getting the most carries as headliners get top billing and there’s nothing like hitting a defense with a 1-2 punch with little to no drop-off in terms of production.
Look at the impact Michigan’s elite tandem of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards had in last season’s national championship game. Edwards, the Wolverines’ primary No. 2, managed touchdown runs of 41 and 46 yards in the first quarter, pushing Michigan out front.
