Costello, Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach said: “Sometimes he gets big-arm-guy disease, and he’ll gas that sucker in there.” Forgive Leach for pointing out that flaw, he hasn’t had many quarterbacks in his career with that sort of arm talent.

Costello showed plenty of touch in his Bulldog debut. He threw for a SEC record 623 yards, shattering Dak Prescott’s Bulldog single-game yardage mark by the end of the third quarter. Watching from the couch, Kansas City Chiefs MVP Patrick Mahomes tweeted, “Wait wait the dude has 600 passing yards?!?!?”
