Week Nine in the NFL saw some phenomenal performances from players who played collegiately in the West.
Each week, we highlight the region’s best pro performances from the standout alumni veterans and rookies
Here are my choices for the best of them.
Top NFL Performances
1. Caleb Williams, QB, Bears/USC
Williams threw for 280 yards and three TDs in the Bears’ win over the Bengals.
The former USC star finished with a QB rating of 114.8. He also had 53 rushing yards and two receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown.
He is the first player in NFL history with at least 275 passing yards, 50 rushing yards, and 20 receiving yards in a single game, and the first player ever with at least 20 completions and multiple receptions in a game in NFL history.
2. Sam Darnold, QB, Seahawks/USC
The former Trojans star continues to have a nice season for the now 6-2 Seahawks.
On Sunday night, he completed 87.5% of his passes in the win of Washington, throwing for 330 yards and four touchdowns.
3. Josh Allen, QB, Bills/Wyoming
The former Wyoming star completed 23 of 26 pass attempts (88.5 percent) for 273 yards and totaled three touchdowns (two rushing, one passing) in the Bills’ 28-21 victory over Kansas City.
Allen is the first quarterback and sixth player in NFL history with at least six rushing touchdowns in eight consecutive seasons.
He also became the third player ever with an 85+ completion percentage (minimum 15 attempts), two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass in a single game.
4. Leonard Williams, DT, Seahawks/USC
Leonard Williams created all kinds of havoc vs Washington on Sunday night.
The 13-year vet out of USC finished the night with a sack, five total tackles, a QB hit, and an additional tackle for loss.
Big Cat was able to create pressure on 20% of the 35 pass rush downs he was in for.
5. Davante Adams, WR, Rams/Fresno State
The former Bulldog was targeted seven times in the Rams’ win over New Orleans, finishing with five receptions for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
That gives him eight TD catches on the season, becoming the seventh wide receiver in NFL history with at least eight touchdown receptions in six consecutive seasons.
His 111 career TD receptions are tied with Antonio Gates for the seventh most in NFL history.
6. Justin Herbert, QB, Chargers/Oregon
Justin Herbert threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns with a 101.2 passer rating and added 57 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown during the Chargers’ 27-20 victory at Tennessee.
The former Duck great now has 50 career games with at least two touchdown passes, tied for the fourth most by a player in their first six seasons in NFL history.
7. Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers/Stanford
McCaffrey totaled 173 scrimmage yards (106 rushing, 67 receiving) and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in the 49ers’ 34-24 win at the New York Giants.
The former Stanford star now has 16 career games with at least one rushing and receiving TD, passing former San Diego State star Marshall Faulk for the most such games in NFL history.
The Niner back has 33 career touchdown receptions, the second most by a back in the Super Bowl era, trailing only Faulk’s 36.
8. Bobby Okereke, LB, Giants/Stanford
The Giants fell to the 49ers on Sunday, but Okereke was all over the field making plays.
The former Stanford Cardinal tallied 14 tackles, with one stop coming behind the line of scrimmage.
It was his third double-digit tackle performance of the season.
