This week’s Big 12 slate features five games, all on Saturday.
I went 5-2 in Week Nine, bringing my overall season record to 50-22, good for a 69% success rate.
For Week Ten, I preview all five contests, breaking down what’s at stake, and highlighting what each team must do to win.
My picks against the spread and straight-up are summarized in the table below.
No. 17 Kansas State at Houston
Saturday, November 2
12:30 pm PT, FOX
BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Kansas State -13.5
What’s at Stake: Kansas State struggled against Kansas last week.
The close victory was questionable and puts the team under a microscope.
If KSU were to be in a tight game with Houston, it would be a red flag. A dominant win, on the other hand, would make last weekend seem more like a fluke.
Why Kansas State Wins: Avery Johnson uses his legs to extend plays and scramble for first downs.
Why Houston Wins: The run game is established and the defense finds a way to contain Johnson.
—My Picks—
Against Spread: Kansas State
Straight Up: Kansas State
Texas Tech at No. 11 Iowa State
Saturday, November 2
12:30 pm PT, ESPN
BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Iowa State -13.5
What’s at Stake: The Cyclones need a high margin of victory to boost their national reputation.
There are zero reasons why ISU should be ranked outside the Top 10.
A convincing win over Texas Tech would be beneficial in the Playoff race. A close game, on the other hand, would only create more question marks.
Why Texas Tech Wins: The defense creates multiple turnovers and the receivers make explosive plays in the passing game.
Why Iowa State Wins: The Clones’ offensive line wins the line of scrimmage and the front seven gets stops on short-yardage third down plays.
—My Picks—
Against Spread: Texas Tech
Straight Up: Iowa State
Arizona at UCF
Saturday, November 2
12:30 pm PT, FS1
BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: UCF -6
What’s at Stake: The season is arguably on the line for both teams.
The Knights are on a five-game losing streak and need three wins to reach bowl eligibility.
For Arizona, the game presents an opportunity for the offense to show its progress and potentially put the Wildcats back on track for a 6-6 record.
Why Arizona Wins: The offensive line gets the push needed for the ground game to be successful and the front seven contains UCF’s quarterback run plays.
Why UCF Wins: The defense gets consistent pressure on Noah Fifita and the offense doesn’t turn the ball over.
—My Picks—
Against Spread: Arizona
Straight Up: UCF
Arizona State at Oklahoma State
Saturday, November 2
4:00 pm PT, FS1
BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Arizona State -3
What’s at Stake: Oklahoma State is at risk of losing every game left on its schedule.
The matchup with Arizona State is arguably the most winnable game remaining.
The Pokes have lost five straight and would hit a new low if they lose to ASU.
Why Arizona State Wins: Cam Skattebo runs the ball effectively and Sam Leavitt consistently scrambles for positive yards.
Why Oklahoma State Wins: The front seven contains Leavitt from creating chunk plays on the ground and the secondary generates interceptions.
—My Picks—
Against Spread: Oklahoma State
Straight Up: Oklahoma State
Best Bet
TCU at Baylor
Saturday, November 2
5:00 pm PT, ESPN2
BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Baylor -3
What’s at Stake: TCU has quietly turned its season around.
The Horned Frogs are 5-3 and seem to have recovered from their midseason struggles.
A win over Baylor on the road might be a signal that the team can win out to close the year.
Why TCU Wins: Josh Hoover doesn’t throw any interceptions and the defense contains Sawyer Robertson in the quarterback run game.
Why Baylor Wins: Robertson plays with his normal degree of efficiency and the front seven gets pressure on Hoover to force poor throws.
—My Picks—
Against Spread: Baylor
Straight Up: Baylor
