By Barry Bolton, CougFan: It turns out the first estimate was the most accurate for Washington State’s athletics deficit. A day before WSU announced its 10-year, $11 million naming rights deal for Gesa Field at Martin Stadium, athletic director Pat Chun told the Board of Regents on Thursday WSU athletics’ operating deficit in the current fiscal year has risen to approximately $31.7 million.
That is close to the estimated $30.4 million gap reported back in August, but nearly $10 million more from the estimated $23 million shortfall from October.
