But these are unusual times and criteria for the playoff — or the “eye test” — will need to be altered to provide a better baseline amid the cancelation of games and shortened seasons across the FBS amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest question surrounding criteria is whether a minimum number of games should be played for a team to be considered for the four-team field. The simple answer should be “yes,” but the 13-member playoff committee doesn’t plan to discuss potential obstacles until early November.
