Bruin Report Online: UCLA defensive back Elijah Gates has submitted his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to sources.
Gates, a redshirt junior, was a one-time starter at cornerback. In 2018, he started six games and performed well, ending up seventh on the team in tackles (39) and fourth on the team in break-ups (5). By the end of the 2018 season it appeared he had earned a starting spot. But his performance level dropped off considerably in 2019; after beginning the season as the starter, he lost the spot, and fell down the depth chart. By spring practice of 2020, he was third- or fourth-string at cornerback.
