USC spring game reveals the limits of being a player’s coach

By Matt Zemek, TrojansWire: No one needs an explanation about the virtues of being a player’s coach. No one needs a sermon on the value of creating a culture of love, mutual trust, respect, and brotherhood.

Clay Helton is, by all accounts, a thoroughly decent and warm human being, generous and kind and a good egg. Whenever USC football is discussed in the Helton era, it is worth reminding ourselves that there’s a human being behind the front-facing role of head coach, or offensive coordinator, or athletic director. These people deserve respect as human beings, without exception. There is never a time to hit below the belt or wish ill upon these men who work under enormous stress.
