By Nick Schultz, On3 Sports: UNLV athletics director Erick Harper told the school’s Board of Regents the department is operating with $26 to $31 million in debt, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Mick Akers. That led to questions about whether the Rebels can cover Dan Mullen’s contract.
UNLV can only cover the costs of the first two years of Mullen’s deal, Harper said. The disclosure came after regent Joseph Arrascada asked how the school planned to pay his $17.5 million deal, valued at a salary of $3.5 million on average.
Harper responded by saying the plan is to raise money from donations and increased revenue from football games, according to the Review-Journal. That would then cover the final three years of the contract.
