By Grant Hughes, 247Sports: The 85th NCAA Tournament tips off next week, and blue-blood programs like Duke, Kentucky and Kansas are poised to earn high seeds Sunday when the selection committee unveils the 68-team bracket.
Other historic programs, including North Carolina and Indiana, hope to make the field as both entered their respective conference tournaments on the bubble. Which programs have made the most March Madness appearances since the tournament’s 1939 debut? The answers may stun some readers.
Of the 15 programs with the most NCAA Tournament appearances, five are current members of the ACC, which has most programs represented of any conference. The Big East comes in second place with three, while the SEC, Big 12 and Big Ten are tied for third with two teams apiece.
