By Greg Witter, CougFan: Jim Levengood laughs heartily at the memory. He was in his second year as Washington State’s athletic director and needed a football coach in March 1989 after Sam Jankovich had lured Dennis Erickson to Miami. Three names were atop his target list:
“Every hire is important, but this one had to be right because we had momentum coming off the ’88 season. The future was bright. We couldn’t get this wrong,” Livengood said.
