By Cody Nagel, 247Sports: Kickoff for the 2025 college football season is still more than six months away, and while that might feel like a distant horizon, it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the action. The way-too-early top 25 rankings are already circulating, including 247Sports’ debut edition from January that emphasized expected two-deeps and overall roster talent.
There are reasons why certain teams stand out above the rest in earning a spot in the preseason rankings. Whether it is returning production, a star quarterback, transfer portal additions or securing a big-time hire in the constantly revolving coaching carousel, these teams are typically positioned to be in the mix as the College Football Playoff picture takes shape. While the rankings can evolve throughout the spring and summer with continued transfer portal movement, injuries, etc., these teams are certainly worth keeping an eye on.
