By Kevin Flaherty,247Sports: Over the last few years, several long-time coaches with at least one college basketball title — and at times multiple — have retired, from Mike Krzyzewski and Roy Williams to Jay Wright and Jim Boeheim. That’s opened up the sport for any number of relative newcomers to capture their first national championship rings.
Three of the last four national title winners have been first-time victors as head coaches, including all-first-time finals in 2019 when Virginia’s Tony Bennett beat Texas Tech’s Chris Beard.
