By Scot Ludwig, The Albany Herald: I’ve been following college football long enough to remember when just the mere mention of the University of Southern California Trojans struck fear in the hearts of their rivals, most notably UCLA and Notre Dame.
That ship has long since sailed. But when exactly did that happen?
The Trojan’s ‘golden age’ began with the arrival of head coach John McKay in 1960. In his 16 years at the helm, the Trojans won four National Championships (1962, 1967, 1972, and 1974) and produced two running back Heisman winners (Mike Garrett in 1965 and O.J. Simpson in 1968).
