By Jack Carlough, Buffaloes Wire: Bill McCartney, the head coach and architect of Colorado football’s 1990 national championship team, passed away on Friday evening following a lengthy battle with dementia, his family announced. “Coach Mac” was 84.
During his 13 seasons leading the Buffs, McCartney went 93-55-5 while winning three consecutive Big 8 Conference titles from 1989-91.
