Jack Follman’s Week 12 Pac-12 Bowl Projections

We had a rare week in the Pac-12 where things went pretty much according to plan, at least on the field.

Pac-12It’s clear now the Conference title almost assuredly is Oregon vs. Utah with this Saturday’s game mostly being for bowl shuffling, i.e., can Oregon stay in the CFP hunt?

Which also would have major ramifications on where other schools would go—for example, the possibility of putting Arizona State in the Rose Bowl. But we’ll cross that bridge when the time comes.

Not much shuffling this week but let’s check in.

Rose Bowl — Oregon vs. Michigan

2:00 p.m. PT, ESPN, January 1, 2022, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA

The Ducks got me closer to thinking they make the CFP with a mostly comfortable win over a decent WSU team coming off a bye, after Oregon survived a hard-fought road game at Washington.

Still think they drop to Utah in Salt Lake City this weekend, for now, though I’m less confident in that than I was last week.

Alamo Bowl — Utah vs. Baylor

6:15 p.m., PT, ESPN, December 29, 2021, Alamodome, San Antonio, TX

Congrats to Utah for not losing to Arizona this week in what would have been the most Pac-12 thing ever.

They likely have to beat Oregon once now to avoid slipping down to the Vegas Bowl.

Las Vegas Bowl — Arizona State vs. Purdue

7:30 p.m. PT, ESPN, December 30, 2021, Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, NV

Arizona State’s win at Washington was quietly big for them as they maintain distant South title hopes.

The Sun Devils also needed the win to keep themselves in contention for jumping Utah in the pecking order for a Rose or Alamo Bowl, depending on how things finish with Oregon.

Holiday Bowl — UCLA vs. North Carolina State

5:00 p.m. PT, FOX, December 28, 2021, Petco Park, San Diego, CA

For a minute it looked like the Bruins might pack in the season and not even make a bowl.

Now, instead, they have the chance to challenge for the Rose Bowl somehow.

Sun Bowl — Oregon State vs. Miami

9:30 a.m. PT, CBS, December 31, 2021, Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX

I think these last two bowls get to pick if they want OSU or WSU with identical records.

I guess the Sun takes Oregon State because they haven’t been to El Paso as recently as WSU.

Los Angeles Bowl — Washington State vs. Fresno State

4:30 p.m. PT, ABC, December 18th, 2021, SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Cougars still need another win to get to a bowl.

Good news is they get Arizona in Pullman and a reeling Washington team to close the season.
