By Eric Bossi, 247Sports: First introduced in April 2020, the NBA’s G League Ignite team was supposed to offer an alternative path for top high school prospects seeking an alternate path where they could get paid during their year between high school and NBA Draft eligibility. Now, the future of the Ignite is in jeopardy and it never really turned into a competitor for top high school talent that some thought it might.
The program even got off to a splashy start, landing 2020’s No. 2 player, Jalen Green, who ended up being picked No. 2 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.
