247Sports: Paul Westphal died Saturday after a four-month bout with brain cancer, according to New York Daily News and MLB.com columnist Mike Lupica, who was close friends with the former USC guard and NBA coach. A 2019 inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Westphal was 70.
Before he became a player and coach in the NBA, Westphal embarked on his basketball career at Redondo Beach (Calif.) Aviation. He took his talents to nearby Los Angeles with the Trojans, starring in a three-year from 1969-72.
