247Sports: BYU and Washington were set for a non-conference matchup this coming weekend, but the independent Cougars (9-0) backed out of playing the Pac-12 Huskies (2-0), according to a report Sunday evening by FOX Sports and FS1 sideline reporter Bruce Feldman.
In a statement, BYU said Monday that the Cougars would “remain open” to additional games. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who is high on BYU and has put the independent Cougars in his top-six rankings, shared a disappointed reaction Monday.
