ESPN releases college football top 25 for next three seasons

By Sam Marsdale, 247Sports: ESPN’s FPR gives a personnel-based projection for their top 25 teams over the next three seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023). It takes into account future QB ranking, future offense ranking and future defense ranking.

Pac-12:

7. Oregon
16. USC
17. Washington
25. Utah

  • Kyle Whittingham had Utah on the brink of College Football Playoff consideration in 2019 before the Pac-12 Championship loss to Oregon.
  • Washington will be an interesting case. As 247Sports’ Bud Elliot points out, recruiting has gone down under Jimmy Lake. After signing 27 blue-chip players in 2018-19, the Huskies have signed just 13 in the recent two years.
  • From hot seat to one win away from a Pac-12 title and unbeaten season, Clay Helton extended his tenure in Los Angeles last fall. And with 2021’s recruiting efforts considerably better than the previous cycle, USC is trending in a positive direction again under his watch.
  • Mario Cristobal has agreed to an extension through the 2025 season, which could not have come at a better time for Oregon, who will try and hold off USC for top billing in the Pac-12 over the next half-decade, as recruiting battles California are heating up in a big way between the two programs.
