As a voter for the Pac-12 Players of the Week, my choices may occasionally differ from the official selections.
Either way, I want to share my picks and give brief explanations of why I voted the way I did for the Freshman and Player of the Week.
My Summaries appear below.
Player of the Week — Brandon Carlson, Utah

He scored a career-high 31 points against Wake Forest to secure Utah’s lone win at the event. He finished the Tournament shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three while averaging 6.7 rebounds per game.
I normally like to give my vote to a player that wasn’t on a losing team. But Carlson’s production can’t be ignored. I likely would have gone with Brooks (21.0 ppg, 7.0 rpb, 43.8% fg) had Washington managed to beat San Diego State in overtime in the championship game of the Continental Tire Main Event.
Freshman Player of the Week — Isaiah Collier, USC

He averaged 23.5 points against UC Irvine and Brown while shooting 43.8 percent from the field. Turnovers are a flaw in his early career, though. He committed 11 TOs in the two games compared to just four assists.
Still, until another player has better scoring production it’s difficult to vote for someone else. I also considered Arizona’s Motiejus Krivas, UCLA’s Aday Mara, and Stanford’s Andrej Stojakovic.
