Coaching changes at Michigan, Washington and Alabama, for example, create uncertainty about the immediate success of those perennial College Football Playoff hopefuls.
Games are not won or lost in the offseason, though, and perhaps one or more of the step-back candidates will surprise with terrific 2024 campaigns.
