By John Canzano, OregonLive: Years ago, I was summoned to the office of then-Oregon State men’s basketball coach Jay John for a mid-season sit down. He didn’t want to talk basketball. He wanted to show me the rug in his office.
“Look at this thing,” the coach said. “It has holes in it.”
