The preseason projections are locked in for the top contenders in the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC, but which dark-horse teams could emerge in each respective conference and shake up the standings? Typically, the preseason favorites win the conference championships, but there can also be some surprising teams that make a strong showing.
There is an added incentive for power conference teams to win their respective league title starting this season with an automatic bid to the expanded College Football Playoff and bye to the second round. This new format projects to add even more excitement and stakes to the regular season, making each game crucial for teams looking to secure a spot.
