By Brad Crawford, 247Sports: NCAA president Mark Emmert is reportedly non-committal on names, image and likeness profits for student-athletes and is leaving Congress in charge of sorting things out within states who haven’t yet passed laws allowing college players to earn money for their name or image.
According to 247Sports national analyst Brandon Marcello, at least two democrats in the U.S. Congress are working on federal NIL bills, and nine states have passed legislation allowing athletes to profit off their public image. Eight states will allow college athletes to ignore NCAA rules and profit off their own name. Florida is expected to be the first state to allow its new law to go into effect July 1.
